Symptoms
Males with Fragile X Syndrome display learning disabilities, behavior problems and changes in physical characteristics. Delayed speech and language development are common.
Physical characteristics may include large ears, soft skin, long face, and large testicles. They have connective tissue problems which may cause flat feet, ear infections, double jointed fingers and hyper-flexible joints.
Behavior characteristics may include ADD/ADHD, aggression, social anxiety, autism, hand biting or hand flapping.
Females display similar characteristics, but they are usually more mild. About one-third of females with FXS have a significant intellectual disability. A small percentage will have no apparent signs of the condition.
